John C Schumacher, Jr., CBO, Owner/CEO
John is the owner and founder of Comprehensive Building Code Services, LLC, (CBCS) and has over 25 years of experience in the building inspection industry. John has pursued education in computer sciences and engineering and holds sixteen International Code Council certifications. He has served as Chief Building Official for four jurisdictions in Colorado. He is the recipient of recognition for performance and achievement in numerous organizations and has been the leader of several award-winning building inspection departments. John has successfully orchestrated five building code amendment and adoption processes and he pioneered building department community interaction through town hall public meeting forums and departmental newsletters.
After a 15-year successful career in the construction industry, John began his career in local government in 1998 as a member of a local Planning and Zoning Commission and, subsequently, in the position of Planning and Zoning Director/Building Official for a small jurisdiction in South Dakota. John work as a consultant to the United States Air Force before relocating to Colorado in 2001 and quickly advancing in the local building inspection industry, transitioning to the role of Chief Building Official in 2007. After 16 years as a Building Official and 25 years in municipal government building inspection, and with a desire to elevate the customer experience in the building inspection industry, John assembled a team of dedicated and knowledgeable associates and formed CBCS.
John lives in the northern Denver metro area and enjoys travel, hiking, and music. John has three married and successful children - a daughter and son-in-law in Las Vegas, a daughter and son-in-law in Colorado, and a son and daughter-in-law in the states serving in the USAF. John is the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, ages 1, 2 and 4. John also enjoys audiobooks, making ice cream, and he has been a drummer for over 45 years, playing with several well-known bands on the Denver music scene over the past 15 years.

Kirk Cadotte, Plans Examining/Building Inspection Supervisor
Kirk and John have been business associates and friends for over 23 years, working together in three different jurisdictions and for two different firms. Kirk has 29 years of experience conducting inspections and plan reviews, and has served in roles as a Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, Senior Building Inspector, and Inspection Supervisor. Kirk possesses 9 ICC certifications and State of Colorado licenses.
Kirk began his career at an early age, working with his father in construction and eventually taking over the family business. After years of contract work with the Denver Urban Renewal Authority, Kirk transitioned from the family business, accepting a position as a Project Manager for the Renewal Authority. When the opportunity arose, Kirk accepted a position as a Construction Analyst for the Small Business Administration, traveling the world performing disaster relief work and assisting others through his knowledge of construction practices and building codes. In 1996, Kirk began his career in building inspection with a position as Building Inspector with the City of Arvada. Kirk advanced in the building inspection industry, serving the communities of Thornton, Wheat Ridge, Loveland, and a second period of service in Arvada.
Kirk and his wife Robbie have lived in Thornton for over 20 years, and they enjoy antiquing, home improvement projects, and classic cars and trucks.

Kara Fine, Permit Technician/Administrative Assistant
Kara joined the CBCS team in September of 2024 as the Permit Technician/Administrative Assistant, bringing skills and experience acquired in a previous and similar role for the Building and Planning Department of a western Colorado municipal government. In her previous role, Kara developed exceptional customer service abilities that aided her in providing guidance to effectively assist customers throughout all stages of the building permit process. Kara collaborated with multiple departments and customers throughout the permitting and inspection process to ensure efficiency and accuracy while expertly meeting the needs of customers and navigating projects to completion.
Prior to her transition to the building inspection industry, Kara served in the roles of Veterinary Technician and Receptionist, providing her with opportunities to demonstrate her understanding, compassion and empathy for others, traits inherent to outstanding customer service. Through growth and experience in varied positions and career fields, Kara has developed exemplary customer service and communication skills that have benefited her and those that she has served.
Kara moved to the Western Slope of Colorado in April 2020. Raised in Southwest Wisconsin, Kara lived in Iowa and Illinois before making the move to Colorado. She grew up with a strong love for nature as well as exploring new places. At home, she stays busy with four dogs named Rocky, Oakley, Honey, and Berg. They enjoy discovering all that Colorado has to offer!
